Qualifications and Experience

Dr Mayhead undertook trained at Kings College, London, medical school before qualifying in 1997 and moving to the south coast for much of his early years of work.

In 2001 he relocated to Australia for 2 years to experience working in a hospital in rural New South Wales, before returning to the UK to complete his higher medical training in general medicine and gastroenterology.

He has completed a masters degree in human nutrition through Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia, and works closely with his dietetic colleagues to support holistic care for patients with gastrointestinal issues.

As part of this he has particular interest in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome along with pancreatic disorders and the management of both upper and lower gastrointestinal symptoms.

He has been an active accredited bowel cancer screener (BCSP) for the past 8 years and regularly trains and examines other gastroenterologists and trainees in BCSP, ERCP and other endoscopic techniques.

Dr Mayhead is also a fully qualified mediator and can help to bring two parties to a mutually acceptable resolution where there is conflict.
